Busy Hands Workshop Series

Pysanky

Stratford Perth Museum - Line 34, Stratford, ON N5A 6S6, Canada

Get out of your shell and learn the traditional artform of Pysanky - creating Ukrainian Easter eggs with beeswax and dye. A ritualized Slavic practice, the origins of Pysanky predate Christianity and has various origin folklore stories. The intricate floral and geometric designs are often linked to the welcoming of Spring and the yolk of the egg symbolizing the return of the long sun. New meaning for Pysanky has also arisen as a cultural rebirth and resiliency for Ukrainians in the midst of war.

Generously hosted by educator and museum donor, Ann Marie Stasiuk, all materials are provided and each participant will take home a decorated egg or two. This is a museum fundraiser in which half the workshop proceeds will support the Ukrainian School in St. Marys.
